Bellydance is a word I use to encompass all forms of dance designed specifically for the feminine form, stylistically
generally having as a key component the isolation of certain body parts from other body parts. One could say bellydance
relies on optical illusion as well as muscle control, creating shapes and forms that mimic snakes, water, fire and other
things. Bellydancing is basically a collection of the forementioned moves that create a sort of physical vocabulary; this
vocabulary is of the same language as that of drums, making the dancer's body become the visual voice of the drum.
Certainly, not all dancing is percussive, as not all music is percussive, and there are a whole slew of 'words' in this
'vocabulary' that speak the language of string instruments and melodies.
To me, Bellydance is an artform that both encompasses and extends past the traditional Cabaret style meant for dinner
and nightclub entertainment. This dance can be taken to spiritual and physical heights that are above the ceilings of
the nightclubs. This is what I will be exploring in this website, and this is the message I want to develop with my own dance.
I want to pass this dance down to other women the way it was passed down to me, and I want us to have as an option dance as
a means of feeling, and as a means through which to reach the Divine.
I want to revive it. I'm not creating anything, only dusting the dirt off of it so it can once again me recognizable
and comfortable for women. My teacher, Isis Panthea, is my biggest mentor when it comes to bringing dance to another
level.
